A warm Irish welcome to you, the students and families of the Class of 2026! Throughout spring and summer, this page serves as a resource for our incoming students and families, with important information, links and due dates. Please bookmark the page and check your spam folders to ensure you are opening all of your SHC communication. Information in bold may include links to other pages or forms. 

We will refresh due dates, information, and links on this page until September 1. By then, students and families will be able to use SHC’s learning management system, Schoology, for announcements, coursework, homework, and updates from groups such as SHC Announcements, the Parent Association, counselors, teams and clubs.

4/10: Student and Family Information Survey due. Class of 2026 families have been sent the link for this survey. If you did not receive the link, please check your spam folder and set your filters to accept emails from

4/10: World Language choice due. Select the World Language and level that you would like to study at SHC! Students selecting to study a language for the first time will be placed in a first-year course and do not need to take a placement test. Students with prior language experience in the language they are selecting are asked to complete a short placement exam. 

5/1 VPA Selection due. Visual and Performing Arts classes are optional and joyful seventh classes for ninth graders. 

5/15: Jumpstart Registration due. 

6/1: JUMPSTART, is an introduction to learning, technology, and wellness at SHC facilitated by SHC teachers and student Wellness Ambassadors. All incoming ninth graders are expected to attend one of the sessions, which meet for three half-days throughout summer on the SHC campus. Students enrolled in SHC Summer High School should select Session D (which is reserved solely for those students). Please note SHC's Summer Institute is NOT the same as Summer High School. Jumpstart participants will be asked to adhere to SHC's Covid Safety Guidelines

SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS: Each summer, all SHC students participate in One School, One Question, selected this year by our Visual and Performing Arts Department. OSOQ projects are due August 18; click the link for guidance on creating and submitting your projects. 

Some SHC courses have summer assignments, including the DePaul Scholar English 1,2 course and second, third, and fourth year World Language courses (those denoted as 3,4; 5,6; or 7,8). All summer assignments are due August 15 (the first day of class.) 

COURSE SCHEDULES will be shared with students in late June. All ninth graders will enroll in:

  • English 1,2
  • PE/Health
  • Physics 1,2
  • Scripture 1,2 (An Introduction to Religious Studies)
  • World History 1,2

Math, VPA, and World Language course enrollment varies by student. PowerSchool login credentials will be emailed to students and parents/guardians in mid-August; parents/guardians will also receive their Schoology login information at that time.

COURSE BOOK & RESOURCE LIST Students should use their 2022-23 course schedule and this list to determine which books to purchase or resource fees to pay; please note some courses (such as English 1,2) require both a resource fee and a book purchase. Students are asked to have all of their materials for the year by August 12. 

HEALTH REGISTRATION All SHC ninth graders, whether or not they intend to participate in a sport, must be registered on Magnus Health and have a Pre-Participation Physical Exam (PPE) Form on file via the Magnus Health platform. Click here for a brief tutorial on Magnus. The SHC PPE Form is available for download on Magnus and should be uploaded to Magnus once completed by your physician. We cannot accept a hard copy and will only accept the SHC PPE Form. Please see the Sports Medicine webpage for more information; or contact Director of Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer Mr. Oscar Melero or Assistant Athletic Trainer Ms. Jessica Markbreiter with questions.

8/29, 6:30: Frosh Parent/Guardian Counselor Meeting. Please join Mr. Tom Farrell, chairperson of our Counseling and Advising Department, and his colleagues to meet your student's counselor and learn more about our four year program. You will receive a Zoom link in the coming weeks.

9/1: Back to School Night. We look forward to welcoming all SHC parents and guardians joining us on campus from 6:00 to 9:00. Meet our teachers and learn about expectations and resources for the year ahead!

Sacred Heart Cathedral offers a variety of sports in three seasons:

Fall: Cross Country (Boys/Girls), Football, Golf (G), Tennis (G), Volleyball (G)
Winter: Basketball (B/G), Soccer (B/G), Wrestling (B/G)
Spring: Baseball, Golf (B), Lacrosse (B/G), Softball, Swimming (B/G), Tennis (B), Track & Field (B/G), Volleyball (B)

The Fightin’ Irish participate in the very competitive West Catholic Athletic League and are a member of the Central Coast Section of the California Interscholastic Federation. If you are considering participating in any sport, including preseason workouts or tryouts, there are medical clearance requirements. 

Participation Requirements (required in addition to the Magnus Health registration expected of all students)

Parents/Guardians, please do the following:

  1. Register your student-athlete on Magnus Health on June 1; see SHC Sports Medicine webpage PPE and Athletic Participation Forms section for instructions. Please look for an email from Magnus Health on June 1.
  2. Download and print the Pre-Participation Physical Exam (PPE) Form (with student’s unique QR code). ONLY use the SHC PPE Form.
  3. Schedule your student’s physical exam during the time of June 1st to August 1st.
  4. Once completed by your physician (signed, dated, stamped, and box checked off indicating disposition/medical clearance status), upload the PPE form to Magnus.

    The SHC Pre-Participation Physical Exam (PPE) Form completed in Magnus should be dated between June 1st and August 1. Please contact Director of Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer Oscar C. Melero or Assistant Athletic Trainer Jessica Markbreiter if you have any questions regarding the PPE or Athletic Participation requirements.

    Summer Workouts

    Class of 2026, welcome to the Fightin’ Irish family!

    You are invited to participate in optional summer workouts for incoming 9th graders in some of the following sports offered by SHC. To participate, please do the following:

    1. Register on Magnus (on June 1 or later).

    2. Upload a current PPE medical clearance form to your Magnus account.

    3. Sign up for summer workouts via the google form sign up form.

    4. Email the coach.

    5. Begin participation only after your middle or grammar school year has concluded.

      You can find instructions on how to get your medical clearance on the Sports Medicine page. Please note that not all sports offer summer workouts. Also, please note that participating in summer workouts is not required to make a sports team at Sacred Heart Cathedral, nor does it guarantee a spot on a team.
