Summer COVID-19 Guidelines

Updated: June 15, 2021

The following guidelines will be in effect for SHC Summer School, Summer Institute, JumpStart, Athletics, AE classes, and any other SHC programs. Please note that these items may be updated as new guidelines and protocols are announced by the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

Is there a negative COVID test requirement this summer for students or adults?

At the request of SFDPH and in accordance with current guidelines, there is no requirement to have a negative COVID test on-file for the summer (except for higher risk activities that SFDPH requires). We discontinued the regular asymptomatic COVID testing requirement for both students and adults on May 30. Anyone with symptoms that could be COVID related should not come to campus and should get tested.

Is there a Health Pre-Screening that needs to be done prior to coming to an SHC summer program?

Yes. We use Ruvna to do a health pre-screening each day prior to arriving on campus. In the event that you do not receive the Ruvna health pre-screening notification (by email and/or text), you can still come to SHC and you will be asked the pre-screening questions verbally by our security staff. If this occurs, please contact Andy Chan (achan@shcp.edu) to make sure you get added to our Ruvna system.

How does Ruvna work for students?

The parents/guardians of students or campers should get an email and a text asking them to complete the health screening in the morning before their SHC activity (usually between 6:45-7:00am). Per SFDPH guidelines, we require this screening to be completed by a parent/guardian (not the student). You can respond using a phone or a computer. It's your choice. You do not need to download an app to complete the Ruvna health-screening. If you don't complete the screening, you will get a reminder notification one hour later.

After parents/guardians answer the questions to complete the screening, they will get a QR code screen (has QR code, student’s name, and the date). Parents/guardians should forward the link or take a screenshot and send it to their child. SHC Campus Safety will scan the QR code with an iPad when the student comes to campus.

If your parents/guardians get a denied access message, do not come to campus. One of the most important things you can do – stay home if you are sick or have symptoms. Click here for a more detailed pdf on using Ruvna.

How does Ruvna work for adult employees and staff?

Adult employees and staff will also be e-mailed and/or texted the Ruvna pre-screening each morning. After completing it, save the QR code so that you can have SHC Campus Safety scan it upon your arrival.

What are the mask requirements?

We are following the latest from SFDPH. Currently, all students and adults must wear face masks over both their nose and mouth while on campus. This includes family members and caregivers dropping-off or picking-up students outside the building. NOTE: The June 15 State Reopening Plan does not change this masking requirement at schools.

Any sport-specific policies (both indoors and outdoors) will be reviewed by the coaching staff. In general, see the chart below.

Youth Sports - Face Covering Required?

What are the physical distancing policies?

We are following SFDPH guidelines. Physical distancing is no longer required when children are wearing face masks. Physical distancing is still required when children are not wearing masks, for example, during meals.

Outdoors, three-foot distancing is required while eating, singing, or playing wind instruments.

Staff who have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 do not need to distance themselves from children and youth in the program. Staff who are not fully vaccinated for COVID-19 can be closer than 6 feet to children when needed to meet developmental and learning needs.

Children and youth who have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 do not need to distance themselves from each other.

Are there any travel quarantine/testing policies?

Fully vaccinated individuals can travel safely within the United States and California, and are not required to test or quarantine before or after travel unless they have symptoms for COVID-19 disease.

Non-vaccinated individuals should quarantine after travel. People who are not fully vaccinated for COVID-19 should avoid non-essential travel outside of California. They should quarantine and get tested after arriving in or returning to San Francisco from other states or countries.

For more information on travel and quarantine, see https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/Travel-Advisory.aspx

Is there any vaccination requirement?

Vaccination is not required for students or adults at SHC’s summer programs, but we strongly encourage everyone, in consultation with their primary care provider, to get vaccinated for the health and safety of us all.

Other questions?

Most situations are covered above. If your situation is unique or you have a question not answered, you may need to reach out to SHC directly for further guidance. Thank you for following all the above guidelines for a safe, fun, and educational summer.
