Mobile App Design

July 12-16, 2021 | 10 am-Noon & 1-3 pm

Students will use Thunkable, a free, web-based drag-and-drop block coding interface, to create apps that work in iOS and Android and can be shared and used by family and friends. Thunkable apps can be uploaded to the Google Play Store and Apple's App Store.

No previous coding experience is required, but familiarity with block-based coding interfaces such as Scratch, Tynker or Blockly will be helpful.

Ages: Students entering 7th-9th grades in the fall of 2021

Supply List: TBD

Instructor: Grey Todd
Grey Todd is currently a computer science teacher and technical lead at Presidio Middle School, where he loves teaching Scratch, App Inventor, Robotics, Python and Javascript. Before becoming a teacher, he worked for over 20 years at jobs in the software industry. Mr. Todd is proud to be part of a small group of like-minded teachers working in concert with SFUSD’s Ed Tech department to create the computer science curriculum used by all middle schools in the district. His favorite part of the day is always the part where he gets to write code with kids.
