SHC Announces 2024 Lasallian Vincentian Alumni Awardees

Sacred Heart Cathedral is pleased to announce the naming of Sister Georgina Severin, DC, ’98 and Steve Krauss ’69 as recipients of the 2024 Lasallian Vincentian Alumni Award.

The Lasallian Vincentian Alumni Award is a prestigious honor given to a male and female graduate who meets the criteria outlined below.

• A graduate who has respect for and demonstrated extraordinary commitment to Sacred Heart Cathedral.

• A graduate who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the charisms of St. John Baptist de la Salle, Founder of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, and St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louise de Marillac, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Founder of the Daughters of Charity.

• A graduate who has demonstrated a commitment to living a life of faith, service and community.

• A graduate who ministers with compassion, mildness, cordiality, respect and devotion.

Sister Georgina, a Daughter of Charity since 2014, embodies a commitment to faith and service. For the past 21 years as an educator, she has shown an unmatched devotion to the students under her care, many of whom come from underserved communities. She currently serves as an 8th-grade homeroom teacher at Saint Vincent de Paul School in Phoenix, Arizona.

Steve, who worked at the San Francisco Unified School District in special education before retiring, continues to demonstrate an unwavering devotion to community members. Despite experiencing health challenges, he helps new and existing members of a support group to cope with the emotional and physical hardships that come with a debilitating health condition. He also organizes fellow ’69 alumni to visit classmates who are in need.

“These humble servants, inspired by the life of Jesus Christ in the Gospel teachings, are being recognized for their lived example to us. We take pride in calling them as our alums and look forward to celebrating the mission of Sacred Heart Cathedral during our Founders Week in May,” President Melinda Lawlor Skrade.

Nominations are accepted from the Sacred Heart Cathedral community, and screened and voted on by the Office of the President. Sacred Heart Cathedral will present this bi-annual award at the Founders Mass, on May 2, at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption.
