Irish for a Night a Slam Dunk

Irish for a Night, Sacred Heart Cathedral’s inaugural event to introduce grade schoolers and families unfamiliar with the school to experience high-school spirit at SHC, turned out to be a tremendous success as more than 1,000 attendees, including potential future Fightin’ Irish students and parents representing over 100 Bay Area schools, filled the Pavilion last Friday to watch the boys varsity basketball team defeat the St. Francis Lancers 73-48.

The evening featured many activities and entertainment, including free swag giveaways, a special cheering section for Irish for a Night attendees and rousing music provided by the SHC Band.

“It was an amazing event that gave families a sneak peek of what it's like to be a part of the SHC spirit, and having our current faculty & staff, students and parents at the event gave a first-hand experience of what it's like to be a part of this special community. I think it was a great success all the way around,” Director of Admissions Jonathan Lim said. 

Attendees also had a unique opportunity to meet with SHC Admissions staff members to learn more about the educational programs offered at the school, including Summer Institute, a series of one-week enrichment courses and sports academies for motivated students and athletes ages 8–14.

Alums with grade-school children also had a chance to engage with staff, including Alumni Engagement Manager Isabella Cerri ’16, who provided alums with information about upcoming events and activities.

“I had the special opportunity to talk with a few of our alumni families who had grade-school children, and each one was so appreciative to be back at their alma mater. Any time we can bring alumni back onto campus is special because we want them to feel that they always have a home here,” Isabella said

Given the excitement, buzz and success of the event, Irish for a Night is here to stay. Keep on the lookout for the next one!
