Game Makers

June 24-28, 2019 | 9 am to 3 pm

Who says you can’t play and learn? Increasingly, research indicates that strategy games like chess improve cognitive and problem solving skills. Learn to play chess, poker, Go and Risk; or, if you are an experienced player, improve your skills. While we play, we will discuss strategy, game theory, history and logic.

Over the course of the week, students will compete in tournaments while honing their critical thinking skills. Field trips to places such as Gamescape, a local game shop where gamers meet and play, as well as the Mechanic's Institute Library, the center of the chess world in San Francisco, will be integrated.

Throughout the week, students will put their knowledge into play as they design and make their very own strategy game for an end-of-the-week Game Makers Showcase.
