Speratus Winery: Supporting Our Students

Speratus Winery takes its name from the Latin sperare, which means, “to hope.” It is hope that Speratus gives to families in need through scholarships funded by wine sales. Co-Founders Kelly Trevethan’s and Jean Hoefliger’s shared love of wine and dedication to making high-quality education accessible to all inspired the creation of Speratus, a virtual winery that donates one hundred percent of its proceeds to help low income families provide a Lasallian education for their children.

This year, Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory was designated as a beneficiary, joining both Justin-Siena and De La Salle high schools as a recipient of Speratus Winery’s generosity. As a De La Salle alumnus, Trevethan understands the meaningful impact of a Lasallian, college preparatory education. Trevethan shares, “Going to De La Salle High School, I was taught the importance of giving back to the community, and Speratus wine is about giving kids an educational opportunity they would not otherwise have.”

At SHC, seventy percent of funds donated by Speratus will support our Lasallian and Vincentian tradition, specifically through our successful Piro Program.

Named after Sister Teresa Piro, DC, who dedicated her life to helping the vulnerable and marginalized, Piro scholars receive nearly full tuition assistance and tremendous personal and academic support. The program aims to end the cycle of poverty one family at a time, as our founders modeled in their work more than 300 years ago.

In the spring of this year, Speratus added three new releases: 2010 Santa Lucia Highlands Chardonnay, 2013 Napa Sauvignon Blanc and 2011 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Visit www.speratuswinery.com to purchase wine and give the gift of education to a student in need.

Speratus Winery is offering the SHC community a special promotion from March 12–27. Enjoy Speratus Napa Valley Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Rutherford at 25 percent off the retail price.
