Students Exceed Walkathon Goal
The Sacred Heart Cathedral community raised $285,000 for the 35th Annual Walkathon. The gifts raised for Walkathon, a student-led fundraiser aided by families, alumni and investors, will support the Carl Gellert & Celia Berta Gellert Atrium renovation in the Student Life Center on the La Salle Campus, as well as student scholarships and student travel grants.
“Our goal was to raise $250,000 this year, and to see the students not only reach their goal but to surpass it by thousands of dollars is amazing,” said Director of Advancement Magda Lara ’00, whose team drives fundraising and operational efforts for this annual event. “The continued success of this annual event is a testament to the SHC community, which includes our faculty and staff, parents, investors and volunteers, coming together to support the students.”
This year’s beach-themed Walkathon, a 3.2-mile trek through Golden Gate Park, included speeches, class competitions and a barbecue feast to feed more than 1,700 people, including students, faculty, staff, parents and volunteers.
Lara and her team are hard at work, with no downtime between Walkathons. Preparations for the 36th Annual Walkathon are already in full swing as the Advancement Team is in the early stages of planning and brainstorming ways to make next year's event even better.
“I believe that Walkathon will continue to be a massive success for our school. Why? Because the community supports Sacred Heart Cathedral’s continued effort to provide the finest high school education in the Bay Area.”
