On June 11, 12 and 13, SHC partnered with Educational Collaborators, an edtech consulting firm, to host more than 200 Bay Area educators and administrators. The conference featured more than 40 concurrent sessions that focused on best practices in the areas of technology and learning. Two SHC teachers—Riaz Abdulla and Vito Ferrante—presented, and nearly two dozen SHC faculty attended.

"Providing rich and meaningful professional growth opportunities for teachers is key in growing our readiness and capacity to fully embrace the new opportunities created when all students have a mobile computing device for learning," said Matt Montagne, Director of Educational Technology at SHC.

The conference also featured several presentations by members of the Google Education team, including Angela Mecca, who gave conference participants an early look at Google Classroom, slated for release in the fall. The opening keynote by York School’s director of technology, Kevin Brookhauser, encouraged the audience to utilize creative methods that help students develop the disposition to solve complex problems for which we don’t necessarily know the answer.

What is next for professional development for teachers at SHC? Several teachers will travel to Denver this week for Schoolgy’s NEXT Conference, and teachers will be on campus throughout the summer participating in seminars designed to build readiness for embracing technology in the classroom. SHC also looks forward to hosting yet another edtech conference this fall when we welcome California educators to campus for integratED SF on October 3 and 4.
