Over 60 members of the Cathedral and Sacred Heart classes of 1970 gathered on Saturday, November 5, to receive their Gold Diploma pins and certificates, celebrate a mass, and break bread as they relived their high school years. Recipients of a Gold Diploma are honored for their 50th year as alumni of St. Vincents, Cathedral, or Sacred Heart and are immediately entered into the SHC Gold Club along with other prior Diploma recipients. In addition to the 21 women from Cathedral and the 43 Sacred Heart grads, countless friends and family of the honored classes attended as well. The event had been postponed for over two years due to COVID, but the turnout and enthusiasm made the wait worth it.

In addition to familiar names such as former SHC President Brother Christopher Brady, FSC and recently-retired Director of Admissions Tim Burke, the Classes of 1970 features a host of other notable members of the alumni community who don’t always receive proper recognition. These include Rich Azzolino, who graciously provides crab for the annual SHC Crab Feed, Josephine Lucchesi, who has acted to keep her classmates in touch over the last 52 years, former Board of Regent Chairman and longtime supporter Marty Monfredini, and long-time SHC loyalist Mike Creedon. In addition, Claudio Luporini hosted the after party later that evening at Sunset establishment Karl’s Beacon.

Special mention goes out to our 1970 Steering Committee members: Alice Villagomez-Dunphy, Juana Montgomery-Kleiman, Maryann Calleja Walsh, Gloria Zamora Ruiz, John Mattias, Julio Borruso, Claudio Luporini, and Mike Creedon. It is in partnership with their outreach efforts and patience that the event postponed for over 2 years was able to happen with such a great turnout.
