31st Annual Walkathon

We are finally gearing up for the 31st Annual Walkathon — a long-standing SHC tradition! The Walkathon is a two-week student fundraiser that typically ends with a community celebration in Golden Gate Park. Due to the ever-changing conditions of this particular year, it will look very different. However, our community is still excited to continue SHC’s tradition of students supporting students through this annual event. Stay tuned for more information!

FAQs

Will there be an actual walk?

Yes! On Friday, March 26. More info to come on fun activities we have planned!

This will be a self guided and self reported walk. It is optional, but if you do choose to participate we ask that you take a picture and share with us! Anyone that sends in a picture to us will be entered into a drawing for fun prizes!

When is the Early Bird Deadline? Wednesday, March 10 (see below for more Early Bird information).

Where does the money go?

This year, proceeds will support student scholarships and a new SHC initiative — ShamrockVision. ShamrockVision will be an essential communication tool for the entire SHC community. This is a system the school needs now, to create unity and cross-campus connection while ensuring effective communication throughout our entire school community. Masses, performances, and games can be broadcast in a way that will maintain social distance while promoting our school’s unique community feel.

Proceeds will also support student scholarships for our families most in need during this difficult past year. Funds will increase the amount of financial aid that SHC is able to offer many of our families.

To date, the Walkathon has helped fund:

  • Transformation of science facilities
  • Transformation of the De Paul Lobby
  • Fitness for Life Program
  • Fitness Center
  • Sister Teresa Piro, DC, Student Life Center
  • Herbst Library and Information Center
  • Laptop computers in the Library
  • SHC Gateway at Gough and Ellis Streets
  • Strength and Conditioning Weight Room
  • Student Launch Initiative
  • Student travel, scholarships, technology upgrades and more

What time is the Walkathon?

This year the Walkathon will take place on March 26th. At any point during the day, get outside for a walk, a jog, or a bike ride, and take pics along the way! Share on social media (hashtag) and follow your fellow classmates as we celebrate the 31st Annual Walkathon together as a school community. Remember, this is a self-directed Walkathon celebration, so the exact time is at your discretion. More information to come.

Where can I drop off a check?

Students can bring checks to campus and turn them into the Main Office (La Salle Campus, 3rd Floor) or the Office of Advancement (De Paul Campus). We do encourage gifts and contributions to be made online if possible, but will accept checks and cash gifts as well.

Is the Walk mandatory?

No. Since we are unable to gather in person this year, Walkathon Day is optional. We do, however, encourage all of our students to get outside on March 26 and take a walk, go for a run or bike ride, and get some fresh air! It is optional, but if you do choose to participate we ask that you take a picture and share with us! Anyone that sends in a picture to us will be entered into a drawing for fun prizes

How do I sponsor a student?

You can sponsor a student by making a donation to our General Walkathon Sponsorship. If you would like to sponsor a specific student, please include the student’s name and class year in the fields provided, or search for a specific student by visiting our fundraising site and clicking on the fundraiser tab! You can also send a check to SHC by printing out a Sponsorship Form to the SHC Office of Advancement.
