Prayer, Liturgy, and Sacraments

SHC celebrates an inclusive community of faith with a variety of Eucharistic liturgies, reconciliation services and prayer services throughout the year. These are coordinated by the Campus Ministry Team with support from a variety of community members.

“I long for You with all my heart, O Bread of Angels. Do not consider my unworthiness which keeps me away from You, but listen only to Your love that has so often invited me to approach You. Give Yourself entirely to me, my God. May Your precious body, Your holy soul, and Your glorious divinity, which I adore in this Holy Sacrament, take complete possession of me.”

- St. Louise de Marillac (Excerpt from her “Prayer before Communion”)

Chapel and Prayer Space

The SHC Chapel and Prayer Space are located on the 6th Floor of the LaSalle Administration Building. They are used for campus ministry offerings and the Prayer Space is available for personal prayer and reflection.

Prayer and Communal Prayer Services

St. Teresa of Ávila, the 16th century mystic and Doctor of the Church, called prayer “an intimate sharing between friends.” Prayer is a practice that encourages spiritual wellness. A prayer is offered at the beginning of each class period and Campus Ministry provides students with opportunities to learn different prayer styles.

The SHC community gathers to celebrate the following:

  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Service
  • Holy Week Prayer Service

“We should spend as much time in thanking God for his benefits as we do in asking him for them.”

- St. Vincent de Paul

Sacrament of Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as penance or confession) is an experience of the gift of God’s boundless mercy. Students are provided the opportunity to receive the sacrament or receive a blessing from a priest confessor during the Season of Lent.

School Liturgies and Weekly Mass

The Eucharistic Liturgy is the “source and summit” of the Catholic faith, an encounter with the real presence of Christ in the reception of Holy Communion. The SHC school community gathers to give thanks for its many blessings and celebrate important holy days at the following liturgies:

  • Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
  • Mass of the Holy Spirit
  • All Saint’s Day
  • Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary
  • Ash Wednesday
  • Founders’ Day
  • An optional Weekly Mass takes place every Wednesday morning at 8:45 a.m. in the SHC Chapel and all are welcome to attend.
