Sacred Heart Cathedral community members gathered on October 2 for a private ceremony to unveil the newest facility upgrade, the Abusharkh Family Sports Medicine Center. The ceremony included a performance by the SHC Choir, a blessing by Father John Gribowich, speeches by staff members and a tour of the new sports medicine center.

SHC board member, Kase Abusharkh ’00, Jacob Abusharkh ’02 and Grace Abusharkh, Jeaninne Abusharkh ’10 and mother, Julie Abusharkh, were in attendance for this special early-morning event. The family had the opportunity to reminisce with faculty and staff and speak with students who are recipients of The Kase and Jacob Abusharkh Family Endowed Scholarship Fund.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank Sacred Heart Cathedral for the honor of bringing the Abusharkh Family Sports Medicine Center to fruition. This space represents more than athletics—it is a place where students will grow, heal and build body and mind,” Kase said.  “We are grateful to be part of such a special project. This facility will stand as a symbol of the Sacred Heart Cathedral’s community, character and vision for years to come. Thank you for allowing our family to be a part of this special moment.” Also in attendance for this special gathering were board members Vice Chair Miguel Guzman ’91, Athletic Task Force Chair Joey Nevin '01 (SHC Athletic Hall of Famer) and Sr. Frances Meyer, DC.  Athletic Directors and representatives from Athletic Programming were also present.

“Our alumni feel a deep connection to Sacred Heart Cathedral because we instill faith, inspiration and service into the educational experience of our students. We not only guide them in their pursuit of excellence, but we also teach them that serving others is the most important way communities thrive. It’s why the SHC community is a special place because our alumni choose to give back,” President Melinda Skrade said. “Kase, Jacob, Jeaninne, Julie and the Abusharkh family, as well as our many alumni and investors who support the mission, are truly a blessing, and we are forever grateful to them.”

Located in the Student Life Center, the Abusharkh Family Sports Medicine Center is the next step in The SHC Plan and the continued pursuit of excellence in programming through state-of-the-art facilities. This dedicated space elevates the award-winning Sports Medicine Program’s standing as providing the highest and most comprehensive standard of care for student-athletes in the Bay Area, focusing on areas of injury prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation. The advanced facility includes new equipment: two recovery cold tubs, hydrocollator, ice machine, treatment table, modality cart, high-low treatment table and taping station. With nearly 800 students competing in 24 sports, SHC continues to support its premier athletic program with cutting-edge resources.
