Director of Admissions & Enrollment Jonathan Lim Talks Open House

From 9-11 am on Saturday, October 26, thousands of visitors will come through our doors to meet teachers and student volunteers, see classrooms, facilities and presentations, engage with clubs, and explore our community.

SHC Open House can be a great opportunity for prospective students and families to connect, and to have conversations that help in an important decision that builds the SHC community year after year.

Jonathan Lim, Director of Admissions and Enrollment, tells us more.

What makes Open House stand out?

Open House is special because our entire community is there, and it’s unique in the way that students and families can curate their own visits. They can decide whether they want to talk to the Athletics Program, Visual & Performing Arts, club moderators or specific departments… For a family that’s looking for a potential high school, you can explore to see if we check your boxes.

What kind of feedback have you gotten from potential students and parents?

Mostly it’s the community feel. It’s such a great community to be a part of, and I don’t think that that’s accidental. It’s intentionally built. It’s family, inclusivity, an open Catholic community of faith. We care for each other, and people identify that at SHC.

There are so many things that happen at SHC, and are represented at Open House! How can visitors get the most out of their experience?

First, be intentional about what you want to see, and second, look for opportunities that are distinctly different, which you might not find at another event like Irish for a Day visits, Irish for a Night programming and Summer and Winter Institutes. If you really want to talk to someone about the wrestling program, for example, you can talk to someone from the wrestling program, because that’s not always available. If you want to talk about the Inquiry & Innovation Program, the DePaul Scholar program or the Instrumental Music program, Open House is a good opportunity to talk to those directors. So I recommend that families choose five or six things they want to do based on the schedule, map those out and do those things while they are visiting.

And if you happen to miss an opportunity? Contact the Admissions Department to receive more information and connect.
