Scratch is a popular block programming tool created by MIT, used worldwide by hundreds of thousands of students to create games and other programs.
This class is recommended for Scratch newbies. It begins with the basics of block programming, moves to creating games and character interactions, and ends with a final project of the student’s choosing.
While the specifics of pacing are subject to adjustment, the basic syllabus is as follows:
Monday – Introduction. Loops and Conditionals.
Tuesday – Project 1: Make a Maze. Broadcast/Receive. Variables and Lists. Project 2: Character Animation
Wednesday – Project 3: Chase Game and (time permitting) Project 4: Platform Game
Thursday – Final Project design/planning and work time
Friday – Final Project Completion (morning) and Peer Shareout (afternoon)
