Dates: June 24-28
9 am - 3 pm
Grades: Students entering 7th - 9th grades in the fall of 2013
Cost: $350 (lunch included)
The new age of journalism is upon us as social media outlets including Twitter and Facebook transform the medium on a daily basis. These avenues have opened up opportunities to people of all ages, especially students, to become part of the conversation alongside seasoned professionals. This course will provide an opportunity for students to explore and participate in these converations first-hand.
Along the way, students will learn essential descriptive writing strategies while also learning how to responsibly and effectively incorporate modern digital tools and the Internet. Students will also learn how to cover and broadcast events on campus at SHC, including sports camps and other week-long enrichment courses. Students will meet and visit professionals from local and national media outlets such as the San Francisco Chronicle, Twitter and Sports Illustrated. Throughout the week, students will create and share original content via various forms of digital media, including Twitter, Facebook, Google Docs and IMovie.
