Community Service & Social Justice

Dates: June 24-28
9 am - 3 pm
Grades: Students entering 7th - 9th grades in the fall of 2013
Cost: $350 (lunch included)

Young changemakers will explore the meaning and nature of justice and service by partnering with local social service agencies such as St. Anthony Foundation, the San Francisco Food Bank, and Project Open Hand. Through hands-on field trips and service projects students will delve into critical issues such as human rights and develop an understanding of what it means to be a person of service.

Instructor: Ryan Darmody
Ryan Darmody has fifteen years’ experience as a classroom teacher, including the last ten in the Religious Studies Department at SHC. He has vast experience in leading volunteer immersions with and for students, including his time as the director of LaSallian Vincentian Youth, the "Good News in the City" freshman service program, the creation and implementation of the Theology of Service course, and international immersion experiences in Chile and Tijuana, Mexico. He is a graduate of the University of Portland and has a MA Theology from the University of San Francisco.
