Young artists will explore a diversity of expression through a range of mediums, playful exercises and fun-filled projects. Focusing on line, composition, and technique, beginning and advanced students will develop their personal styles in the art of storytelling through pictures. Students will view selected cartoon shorts, produce their own comic strip and take exciting excursions to places such as San Francisco’s Japantown, Isotope and the Cartoon Art Museum over the course of this one-week mini course.

Instructor: Brian McHugh
Brian McHugh has worked as an illustrator and fine artist. He studied in Philadelphia at both University of the Arts and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art before settling in San Francisco and receiving his BFA from The San Francisco Art Institute. He started teaching art 11 years ago at Woodside International High School. In addition to having worked as the Technical Director and Scenic Designer in the theater department, he is currently developing the new Maker Lab program at SHC.
