SHC Celebrates Marian Daly ’45

SHC celebrates the life of Marian Daly ’45, St. Vincent’s graduate and long-time supporter of the Daughters of Charity. With her recent passing, we commemorate her life, faith and dedication to her alma mater.

Marian Angeline Early Daly and her twin sister, Mildred, were born in Randsburg, California, in the heart of the Mojave Desert. Throughout the Great Depression, the Early family moved between California and Montana before settling in San Francisco in 1936. Marian attended St. Patrick’s grammar school and St. Vincent High School.

Her experience with the Daughters of Charity while at St. Vincent’s left an indelible mark on Marian, and she was named an Affiliate Daughter of Charity in 1992 after decades of commitment to the order and volunteer work with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. In 2000, SHC honored both Marian and Mildred with the distinction of Lasallian Vincentian Alumni of the year for their endless support given generously to our school and community.

Marian was blessed with a large, loving family. Marian and her late husband, Don, raised seven children: Irene McCall, Kathleen van den Akker, Don Jr., Bishop Thomas A. Daly, Patrick Daly, Robert Daly and Maureen Calero. In her last days, Marian was surrounded by her children and 14 loving grandchildren.

Marian will always be remembered for her faith, generosity, strength of spirit, extraordinary baking skills, impeccable memory and witty sense of humor.

Gifts in honor of Marian may be made to the Daughters of Charity (26000 Altamont Road, Los Altos Hills, CA 94022) or St. Patrick’s Seminary & University (320 Middlefield Road, Menlo Park, CA 94025).
