Cheer on the Fightin’ Irish at the Bruce-Mahoney Basketball Game at USF’s War Memorial Gym!
Established in 1947, the Bruce-Mahoney trophy is awarded to whichever school wins two out of three each year in football, boys basketball and baseball. The rivalry honors Bill Bruce (Saint Ignatius College Preparatory, 1935) and Jerry Mahoney ’44. Both men were outstanding athletes who lost their lives serving their country in WWII. This rivalry is often cited as the oldest Catholic school rivalry in the West and one of the oldest in the country. Many student-athletes from both SHC and SI played together in grammar school and on club teams, which only adds to the excitement and strong sense of community on the field, court, and of course, in the stands.
Check back in in the coming weeks for details regarding tickets and game time.
