John F. Scudder, Jr. ’73 has been involved with SHC for four decades as a student, teacher, dean, principal, and now president. Scudder graduated from SHC in 1973 and earned his BA from St. Mary’s College in 1977. He returned to school to receive his MA in secondary education from California State University, San Francisco. Scudder oversaw the successful implementation of the President/Principal model, and guided the school through a Master Planning process that resulted in the building of the Student Life Center, Theater, and Fitness Center. Since 2000 the school has invested over $45 million in capital improvements.




Gary J. CannonGary J. Cannon


Gary J. Cannon earned his BA from the University of Notre Dame and his Master of Divinity from the Jesuit School of Theology, and is currently pursuing his doctorate at the University of San Francisco’s Catholic Educational Leadership Program. Cannon first joined SHC in 1997 as a Religious Studies teacher. In 2001, he served as assistant principal of student life. In his assistant principalship, Cannon led the development and implementation of a strategic plan in technology that enabled faculty to more fully utilize and integrate technology into the curriculum. In 2011, he rose to principal and has fully embraced the challenges and satisfaction of his new role.
